FAREWELL PLASTIKI!
March 19th, 2010, posted by Shore Crew Tags: Build, Events, PlastikiThe time has come, the Plastiki is ready to begin her momentous voyage on Saturday 20th March, setting sail from Sausalito, CA, under San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge on an adventure that will take her crew across the Pacific Ocean to Sydney Australia, on a mission to deliver a global message to beat waste.
The crew and team have been working around the clock and are finally ready to set sail this Saturday, its a very exciting time and we would love to have our supporters and followers there to share it with us and give the crew the send off they have waited so very long for (nearly 4 years in fact!).
So come and join us to wave the Plastiki and the crew off and wish them a safe voyage.
Departure will be from Clipper Maritime Centre, 420 West Harbor Drive, Sausalito, CA, 94965 at around 9:30am PST so arrive any time before then.
And if you are the sailing type why not wave us off from the water and accompany us on the first of our 100 days at sea.

We have been in Pago Pago, American Samoa for the past six months. US Mail service is available here & direct flights from Honolulu should parts be needed. Plus we have the cheapest fuel in the hemisphere and great internet service.
We’ll be getting underway again, ourselves, in about six to eight weeks… heading west, too.
Hope to see you here… or out there soon!
Happy Sailing!

Thank you! For bringing this urgent matter to light and showing that there can be a smarter way o handle plastic as a resource. Really inspiring to see! I spread the word and wish you all the best!
Good luck Plastiki! We wish you all the best. For other readers wanting the latest innovations and news in the combat against plastic bags follow my blog at http://greenbagsforever.blogspot.com/
Good luck on this adventure. I’ve been following you for the past two years and brought my daughters to visit your place at Pier 41. It is so exciting that you are setting sail. On the first day of spring, of all days. May the journey be a safe one to the seas where I come from as I was born in New Caledonia. Bon voyage!
Good Luck Jo, and all your crew too.
Looking forward to following your progress all the way to Oz.
I’m such a putz! I live here in Sausalito and noticed the sailing time is in 10 minutes! I missed it!
Bon Voyage!
Waste is killing our environment. Here’s hoping you succeed at bringing needed worldwide attention to the obscenity that is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
My followers and I will RT your posts.

Safe journey Pastiki!
I’ll never forget that I bought a new cell phone today, which is made out of used water bottles and has a solar panel – it’s just a little thing to do, but I’l never get tired of doing those little steps that I can do to do my bit for saving the planet. The Plastiki project is one of these very important signs that need to be send out into the world to make people wake up and to show us all that there are actually things that we can do, even though it seems like the industry is what rules the world. We all have a choice. It doesn’t mean, we all have to buy an expensive cell phone when the old one breaks, but we can try to go little steps, one by one.
Wishing everyone all the best and the Plastiki crew an amazing and safe journey !!!
I’ll be reminded of this awesome vessel whenever someone makes my phone buzz :-)
Good luck for a successful and safe voyage.
I’m wearing my Plastiki watch today and I will keep it on until you arrive in Sydney.
Please don’t recycle the Plastiki boat after the end of the voyage.
It should go into a museum for all to see and remember the recycling message.
People should be able to see it first hand as a representation of what you have achieved.
Russell.
Thanks for your efforts and getting the word out there,.. Surf it!
Hope you have a memorial journey ,just like that pocket book adventure The Voyage of the Cap Pilar (schooner) as i now next to nothing about sailing only done it once ,but enough for me .it takes great courage .shh… …you may find a mysterious message in a purple bottle, with white top .don’t tell anybody .when you pass the great pacific garbage patch.don’t panic.and tell me after please.you can see who i am by going to youtube-steelback2 guitar music , myspace -mantagna for art by .Good Luck from Scotland.

The Green Gremlins at Grace Church School will be keeping track! We wish you the best! http://www.greengremlins.wordpress.com.
Firstly I would like to congratulate you on your amazing voyage. I saw an interview with your captain on Channel 9 Sydney Australia and was horrified to hear you say people should use the green bags sold in supermarkets. These bags are not bio degradable and do not break down when in land fill or water. Can you imagine a seal or dolphin swimming with one of those bags around its neck – slow and painful death. These green bags are collected from the rubbish in Australia and recycled into childrens plastic furniture.
The only bags I use are the hemp bags which are sold in supermarkets, slightly more expensive but much more friendly to the environment.
Keep up the great adventures
