So glad to see that all the crew and the Plastiki made it safely to Sydney.
The rest of the world needs to see Plastiki and witness for themselves what can be done by applying creative thinking to a big problem.
I think that it would be a mistake to 'recycle' Plastiki - she needs to remain 'alive' as a permanent testament to what the crew has achieved and what the rest of us can aspire to.
Thank You all for caring!

Almost five years ago, I was sitting on a bench at Mrs Macquaries Point, facing the Opera House. It had taken me a lifetime to get there - there'd always be a reason why I couldn't (or thought I couldn't....) go to Australia: Learn a profession first, finish your degree, it's too expensive to travel, I can't go all around to the other side of the world on my own etc. etc.

Once I had made my way down there and sat on that bench my only thouhgt was: "How could I let other people tell me what I can or can't do all my life. It was so easy to get here. Actually it means, I can do anything I want."

Reading your comments and tweets I was reminded of this very sweet and powerful moment.

Last night I wanted to set the alarm to 3 am, so I'd be able to be online for the Plastiki's arrival. Last minute I changed my mind, thinking that the sleep I'd miss would be too valuable ;-)) I woke up at quarter to three, though, and caught a glimpse of the Plastiki making her way to the Opera House, just before the internet connection broke down for a couple of minutes. But reading the shore crew's updates and getting to see all those pictures that were posted asap was like beeing there with the utopistic vessel of yours ;-))

Later today my dad gave me a postcard I had sent from Sydney back then. I hadn't even mentioned the city to him today, so this was a nice coincidence. Let's say, I feel connected like so many other people do.

Your mission has been a great accomplishment. Living in a country where we've been recycling plastics for decades now, it's highly appreciated that awareness is rising around the Globe. Crossing the Pacific Ocean like this is a crazy venture, and it was great to see how it drew attention to the topic. Above all I'd like to mention the positive spirit that has been pouring out of your tweets, posts, blog entries, and pictures ! This is the most important impact your mission has had on me, because I was on the verge of thinking that it's too late to do something about the environment ("We've messed it up" was my standard comment...). Looking at the Plastiki mission's pictures this has changed - a little bit, but it's changed. I'll be a more positive environmentalist in the future, too - here's to you, Plasitki-mission-nutters ;-)) I love you for bringing a crazy idea to life and showing that, yes, "anything is possible" ! Even saving the oceans.
