YOUR STORIES: SCHOOL TALKS
July 13th, 2010, posted by Shore Crew Tags: Message of Support, OceansParrys Raines, or Climate Girl as she’s widely known, has been a fantastic supporter of the Plastiki expedition and recently visited a school class to talk about our oceans…
“I was invited to speak at a local school about my passion for the environment by a teacher named Mrs Cranney. The talk was for her Yr 4 class at St Pius X. I had such a great afternoon and was blown away by how much research these kids had done on my work and on the Plastiki. They asked a lot of excellent questions and we had discussions about how they could do things at school and at home to help the environment. Their energy and excitement when learning how to take care of our oceans was amazing! We discussed how plastic ends up in our oceans and how it hurts the marine life. We spoke about the single use water bottle and about making better choices when choosing a drink bottle. The kids were really interested to know more about the Plastiki and the goals of the expedition. There were squeals of delight from the girls in the room when I told them the skipper was a woman. Overall the class was fascinated by the Plastiki adventure and the fact that Plastiki’s final destination is Sydney.
“Just before the final bell went the class wrote messages of support for David and the crew. Here are the messages:”
